Receiving an e-mail with my acceptance in EVS project was the first step for my 1 month lasting fairytale! I was expecting something big and, in return, I received something even bigger.
I was hosted warmly by “Don Bosco Centre”, where people from diverse cultures met each other for the first time and had to live together for a month. Thanks to various team-building games, we got along with each other really fast.
Our main responsibility was to work with children from different age groups (4-15). All of them were Dutch which made our work more interesting, because we managed to love and get attached to each other, even without knowing each other’s languages.
The perfectly organized agenda was keeping us busy every day, combining the time for the work and for fun. There was not even a bit of time to get bored.
Hosting team prepared a lot of surprises for us like City Safari, trips to several cities in Holland, boating, the scariest games at nights, trip to Belgium and some other pleasant moments during the EVS.
Considering the fact, that it was my first experience with kids, this volunteering helped me better now what social working is and what a positive effect it has on your emotional wellness.
Thus, EVS in the lovely “Don Bosco Centre” gave me
- Bunch of positive emotions
- Knowledge about different cultures
- Friends from all over the world
- Experience in the sphere that I didn’t use to know
- Opportunity to know the advantages of volunteering
- Possibility to travel and discover Holland
I would like to thank both my sending (Future in Our Hands) and hosting (Don Bosco Youthnet Netherland) organizations for being so organized and professional.
